Poulsbo
Sitting Pretty in Poulsbo: Settled by Norwegians in the 1880s, Poulsbo is affectionately dubbed “Little Norway.” It’s also a desirable destination for tourists and home buyers alike, featuring Scandinavian architecture, a charming main street with shops and cafes, lovely neighborhoods, the ever-popular Viking Fest every May. Poulsbo also is home to the world’s best 1) donuts at Sluys’ Bakery, and 2) yummy hotdogs at Slippery Pig Brewery (they offer a fantastic family-style spaghetti dinner with all the fixins’ on Sundays). Situated on the only public marina in Liberty Bay, Poulsbo is only 18 nautical miles from Seattle—and the sunsets here are not to be believed with the Olympic Mountains in the background.
